The crash site is a sea of dirt and ice. Having seen the falling object from the sky was one thing but standing at the precipice of the unknown was an entirely other thing. Her breath came in whisps of fog and the ice crackled beneath her feet. It felt like being somewhere otherworldly rather than being in the same good old Draelvery.
The ice cracked beneath her paws when she peered over the edge. As if it were waiting for that moment, the icy, charred trees chimed with a breeze that sent a shudder down Callie’s spine. Fright was an echoing ghost in their body that paralyzed their paws where they stood and their hands at their sides. Behind them lay other plush dragons, equally hushed with terror.
But that is the exact moment the ice shard beneath their feet shatters and sends them tumbling down into the crater. Somehow, despite the shards of ice and rocks all around, she made it to the bottom in one piece. While cursing their sheer terrible luck, they looked at the pulsating glow of what – or better said, whom – had caused all the ice and panic in Draelvery.
They were a being tailored of the finest stardust and the most brilliant of galaxies. Staring at them felt like staring at the sky – you at once felt so small yet so impossibly hopeful of everything that was possible. Callie could write eons of poetry and yet not find the words. Perhaps, in more simpler terms, the reason philosophers wondered so adamantly about the universe was to put the feeling of looking The Traveler in the eyes into words.
Their mouth opened and at once, a thousand voices rang out. Every voice that ever was or would be whispered out at once from the Traveler’s mouth, and though Callie could not tell heads or tails from what was said, she was in awe to hear more.
Beneath every footfall as the Traveler approached formed more ice. Though once she was terrified and now, she was not. Her feet no longer listened to whatever she wanted. Though she wanted to back away, she found herself unable to do so. It was as if The Traveler had enchanted her with their beauty and grace.
Her nerves returned in full force when The Traveler was close enough to touch. That was as far as they came, and Callie nervously wondered what the stranger expected from them. An answer seemed to evade them. An idea came as swift as it was ridiculous, but with none better in mind they bent down and began drawing swiftly in the dirt. Pictures of Draelvery and their life there, as well as poor depictions of the Traveler and their beauty.
